For the first time in its history, a pharmacy chain with 4 stores in Blair County is facing layoffs.

Bill Thompson Jr. of Thompson Pharmacy found out Wednesday they lost their contract with Valley View Nursing Home in Blair County. They've had that annual multimillion dollar contract for nearly 20 years, winning bids every 3 to 5 years. The company Reliant recently bought the home from Blair County and dropped Thompson in favor of Pharmerca which is based out of Kentucky. 150 people work for Thompson and he says it could lead to a staff cut of 15 percent. The contract loss is also a big hit for another Blair County company. Value Drug, which sold Thompson the drugs for the 240 residents at Valley View. Reliant would only comment that their priority is on their patients.
