The university received a letter this week from the U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights saying they plan to review Penn State's compliance under Title IX, a law protecting people from sex discrimination by responding immediately and appropriately to complaints. The review comes after a Penn State report highlighting the increase in sexual offenses reporter to Penn State Police between 2010 and 2012. Penn State spokesperson Lisa Powers says Penn State is looking forward to working with the Office for Civil Rights on this proactive compliance review.
