STATE COLLEGE, CENTRE COUNTY -- The body of Jack Crean, a first-year student from Boalsburg, Pa., was discovered by police at the HUB construction site some time between 10:36 and 11 a.m. on Sunday, August 24.

Penn State says it appears that he fell or jumped from a crane inside the secured site. An autopsy is expected to be conducted by the Centre County Coroner.

Members of Penn State's Student Affairs staff have been in touch with the family and with his roommate, and counseling is being offered.

Penn State spokeswoman Lisa Powers said in an email, "It's a sorrowful start to the academic year and our hearts go out to Jack's family and friends. The death of any student is painful and tragic, and we are deeply impacted by this loss."
