WASHINGTON, D.C. – New mental health screenings for members of the military has passed the U.S. House of Representatives as part of the 2015 defense budget.

The bill, co-sponsored by Congressman Glenn Thompson, would provide the screenings which supporters say could help stop the high rate of military suicides.

The bill would create a universal mental health evaluation for potential military recruits in attempt to catch past suicide attempts and psychiatric disorders.
