A documentary about a local Navy Seal, killed in Afghanistan is playing in State College over the next few days.
Murph The Protector tells the true story of Lt. Michael Murphy. Lt Murphy was 1 of 3 Navy Seals killed during a covert mission in Afghanistan in 2005. The Penn State grad was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for trying to save his team before he was killed.
His family asked military author and director Scott Mactavish to make a film of his life
Murphy's story is a gripping tale of brotherhood on the front lines of America's war on terror. Retired Navy Seal Captain, Ryan McCombie from State College helped recruit Murphy to Penn State and is also in the film. And he was a big supporter of Murphy getting the Medal of Honor. The director says you'll walk away from it with a new respect for what many servicemembers are made of.
Anchor Bay, which distributed Silver Lining's Playbook and Django Unchained is now distributing Murph The Protector.
