JOHNSONBURG, ELK COUNTY - Elk County Native Tom Copella has returned to the area after, about 15 years away, and has been commissioned to create two murals.

One mural is complete and features WWII Veterans George Cherry, his wife Mary (who worked on in the shipyards), and Silver Star recipient Vic Chirillo.

Chirillo owns the building and the mural was funded by friends and relatives of the Cherry Family.

It is located along Market Street. A second mural is being funded by the Johnsonburg Community Trust. They hope the murals will restore some of the history in the town.

The second mural will be a tribute to all veterans and is expected to be complete in a month.

Copella says he started painting when he was about 7 and his first painting was done on a blind.
