Republican candidate Matt Pacifico won the position in Tuesday’s election with 58% of the vote over Democratic candidate John Pentland.
Pacifico said he decided to run for mayor because he felt the city has been in decline and believed he could do something to move the city in a positive direction.
“I want help build some revenue back up for the city,” said Pacifico. “I think that if we can populate downtown again with college students, student housing, then restaurants and retail shops will want to follow.
Pacifico said he is looking forward to the challenge of helping improve the financially-distressed city. He believes his experience as a local businessman and working with his family’s bakery will give him the skills he needs to make a difference.
