JOHNSTOWN, CAMBRIA COUNTY--- Johnstown Police arrested and charged Earl Saunders Wednesday with intentionally burning a 6 month old baby.
“In this case it’s horrific,” said Police Captain Andy Frear. “To think a father would do this to a child.”
The 23 year old is behind bars. Police said back in February he put the baby in the bath tub with scolding hot water. It happened at an apartment at Solomon Homes. According to the criminal complaint Saunders first told police he didn’t think the water was hot. Another family member took the baby to the hospital; she suffered second degree burns over 20% of body.
Neighbors didn’t want their identity revealed told WTAJ News Reporter Danielle Krout they were sickened to learn what happened.
“It can happen anywhere, but I’m shock how could you do that?”
Saunders finally admitted to police that he intentionally put the baby in hot water because he was angry and frustrated.
‘He confessed to our detectives what had happened after an interview with him,” said Frear.
“He doesn’t deserve any mercy, he was heartless this is just horrible,” said a neighbor.
Saunders is in the Cambria County Jail.
