Fire crews were called out just after two o'clock Friday afternoon to a gas explosion at a home along West 9th Street in Bellwood, Blair County.
They say a man was hooking up new propane tank to his stove and when he went to light it the leaking gas exploded, blowing out windows and burning the man's face.
Chief McClouskey warned others that sometimes it's best to let a professional handle gas hook ups.
"They can check them and make sure there are no leaks and everything because that probably could have been avoided if they would have used leak detection on the line and so forth."
The man was taken to the hospital for burns and to check his lungs. The chief estimates $10,000 worth of damage was done to the home.
