The Mount Union Trojans are hoping to muster enough community support to renovate the high school football field house and they're hoping to bring in a reality TV star for help.
"It's about time," football player Brody Suter said.
Suter has played Trojan football for three, going on four, years. This field house is his home way from home, but it needs some serious help.
"The floors, you walk in there and they're slippery with cleats on, people fall," he said. "The lockers, they're not big enough to fit all of your equipment in there. It smells, there aren't enough windows."
The field house has no air conditioning and only a few windows. The original building was constructed in the 1940s and the last upgrade was made in 1999.
"Bathrooms, I think are top priority," new Head Football Coach Matt Young said. "Right now, we have 55 kids and coaches and there's one bathroom stall."
Young and a few other staff members decided to do something about it.
They entered the Ultimate Neighborhood Give Back Challenge, sponsored by Ty Pennington. The winning contestant will get $50,000 and a one day visit from Pennington for a facelift to the facility of their choosing.
It's a national contest and the Trojans are one of 50 semifinalists.
"We've even had some neighboring schools contact us who said they are voting for us as well because they would really benefit from this as well," High School Principal Curt Whitesel said.
Whitesel said without outside funding, a field house renovation simply won't happen.
He said the community support so far has been outstanding. Even retired coach Dayton Shugarts is getting in on the action.
"They spend many, many hours here during the summer and during their football seasons," Shugarts said. "It's really their second home. It would be nice if this place were more like a home."
