Johnstown playground decorated to spread cheer, send a message

Johnstown, Pa. - More than 21,000 lights are now shining bright at the Park Avenue Playground in Moxham.

"I was like wow, that is a lot of lights," Bentley Combs, who went to the event, said.

The sparkle brought more than just holiday cheer to Johnstown families. It's also brought good will into focus.

"We think there is so much good that's happening in every community, so many good people doing good work," Jem Spectar, the President of the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, said. "Sometimes that's forgotten with all the noise and so we want to showcase and to celebrate."

The night is organized by the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and it's part of a bigger project. The University wants to make sure there are events that make a positive community impact.

"We believe the future is bright and can be bright for every single one of these children," Spectar said.

Lights were not the only thing to enjoy.

Books were handed out to children as a way to pave the way to a brighter future and show the importance of an education.

"I think it was a pretty nice thing to do," Sufyann Bush, who was at the event, said.

Combs said thank you to the organizers before leaving the event. He's happy there are people who want to spread cheer.

"I think it's very nice and I want to tell people thank you for bringing light up night to Johnstown," Combs told us.

The night was all about bringing positivity to an area that often sees some negative attention, showing the good outshines the bad.

The lights will remain on until the end of this holiday season.
