This Hometown Hero hopes to bring much needed funds to his local VA clinic.
He says it all came from a can-do attitude he learned in the U.S. Navy.
Robert Sessamen has been a maintenance mechanic at the Van Zandt VA Medical Center in Altoona for the past 15 years. Early on, he got the idea to invent this a set of stairs that allows x-ray techs to get a good picture of a damaged foot or leg.
Sessamen has been perfecting the x-ray stairs over the years. And recently, the VA applied for the patent, citing him as the inventor. That will bring him 40 percent of the royalties.
If it takes off, that could mean big bucks.
And the VA gets 60 percent. It'll come to the local facilities to fund research and development.
Sessamen says his no nonsense sense for getting things done, all took shape while he was in the U.S. Navy between 1975 and 1980.
