Altoona - Memorial Day is coming up later this month.
A day, and a weekend where we remember all of our fallen military heroes. Among them fallen Navy Seal Officer and Penn State graduate, Lieutenant Michael Murphy. Lt. Murphy was killed in 2005 during a mission in Afghanistan.
Every year Crossfit gyms across the country honor Lt. Murphy with an intense workout named after the fallen hero, called "Murph."
It starts with a mile run, followed by 300 air squats, 200 push-ups, and 100 pull-ups.
"It has sort of that near and dear feeling when you're doing it, said Matt Randolph of Osceola. Randolph has been doing Crossfit for 3 years now, and also served in the military for 8 years.
Many will gather in Altoona at Dorman's Sports Performance to do this year's running of "Murph."
"I think the big push for this workout it's really just kinda to suffer like he kind of suffered," said Freddie Dorman, owner of Dorman's. "It's CrossFit's way of giving back to him for what he went through, to allow us to have the opportunity to do this workout every year."
You can take part in "Murph" on Sunday May 27 at Dorman's Sports Performance, located at 2900 Beale Ave. in Altoona. It will begin at 9 AM, and costs $10 a person. All proceeds will benefit local veterans at the James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center.
