Historic Blair Building on fire

Hollidaysburg, Pa. - Wednesday around 4:30, firefighters were called to Highland Hall in the 500 block of Walnut Street in Hollidaysburg. Flames were showing at the roof of the structure. There were no details of injuries or who was inside as the fire got underway but it was in the middle of renovations.

Highland hall used to be called the courthouse annex. It was designed by noted Philadelphia architect Samuel Sloan and built about 1865. It became a Presbyterian female academy and officially named Highland Hall in 1911. It continued to be used as a girls' school until 1940. Then a radio school during World War II. It became a county office building in 1969.

It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. Right now it's in the process of being converted into a 62 and older housing facility.
