A season full of events might be winding down, but Highmark First Night Pittsburgh 2014, presented by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, is the perfect way to end the holiday season and celebrate the start of a new year. As Pittsburgh’s biggest New Year’s Eve celebration, Highmark First Night Pittsburgh features close to 150 events and activities throughout the downtown Cultural District.

Celebrating its 20th anniversary, the family-friendly Highmark First Night Pittsburgh features art installations, performances, hands-on activities, a parade and much more in nearly 50 indoor and outdoor venues within the 14-block Cultural District.
Within a few steps of each other catch magicians, jugglers the First Night Comedy Club, Attack Theatre and the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre School.

Adults and children alike are constantly entertained at the First National Bank Family tent with hands-on activities led by community groups such as the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh, Citiparks, Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, Pittsburgh International Children’s Theater and sports mascots.

Throughout the night hear musical performances by the likes of NoMaD, Johnny Angel & the Halos and the River City Brass. The Soul/R&B and Funk sensation Charles Bradley and His Extraordinaires headline the event, starting at 10:45 p.m. on the Highmark Stage. Don’t miss the newest attraction for the 20th anniversary celebration, an Ice Labyrinth! This walk-through maze of carved giant ice blocks lit up with LED lights is 5foot-tall and 40 feet x 40 feet.

It is not a celebration without a parade and Highmark First Night Pittsburgh is no exception. The “Special Delivery” FedEx Ground Parade begins at 8 p.m. and features Pittsburgh celebrities, such as Mr. McFeeley, giant puppets, art cars, marching bands and a bicycle parade.
No need to grab dinner before attending the festivities as the First Night Food Trucks return to the parking lot at 9th Street and Penn Avenue.

Visit www.firstnightpgh.org to learn more about the vendors participating as well as a more detailed listing of events.
The night goes out with a bang at the Future of Pittsburgh Grand Finale. The countdown to midnight begins with the raising of the 1,000-pound ball, 150 feet in the air, and a spectacular Zambelli fireworks finale!
