ALTOONA, BLAIR COUNTY – On Wednesday, Altoona Area High School students are volunteering to help "tune up" Altoona parks and streets.

Sophomores through seniors, and teachers, are spending the day painting, pulling weeds and picking up trash at 20 locations throughout the area.

The school has teamed up with the Central Blair Recreation Commission to help spruce up the area.
“Its fun to have the day off school, but all really just to benefit the community the community really supports ours school a lot and a lot of the things we do and we just want to give back today,” said Erin Barley, a AAHS teacher.

This is the second year students have held this clean up. The idea for the event came from a club at the school that encourages students to go green.
