UNIVERSITY PARK, CENTRE COUNTY - The former top runner for Penn State's next president officially resigned from his current job.

The Albany Times-Union reported that David Smith resigned from the State University of New York.

His name has been removed from the Office of the President section on the university's website.

The Penn State presidential search committee uncovered he was allegedly padding his salary. The search committee delayed any announcements on the next Penn State hire.
