CURWENSVILLE, CLEARFIELD COUNTY – Fire crews were able to save a vacant building after a Friday morning fire.

The Curwensville Fire Department was called to 45 Cooper Road for a fully-involved building fire at the old Howes Leather Corporation around 6 a.m. Friday.

Crews were able to get the fire under control and save the structure. The building and the 26.5 acres around it have been empty since 2003. Recently the property was purchased by the Clearfield County Economic Development Corporation, who plans to clean up the property and create an industrial park.

A State Police Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
