CONEMAUGH TOWNSHIP, SOMERSET COUNTY - Police are calling it a freak accident as a tree fell out of the woods, hit a moving car, and killed two Children.

The accident happened around 2:30 Monday afternoon on Rt. 403 in Conemaugh Township, Somerset County. That's just over the county line from Cambria. The Somerset County Coroner's office still isn't releasing any names, but two children were killed and four other people were sent to the hospital.

Sandy Seth lives right up the street from the accident. She heard the crash, but didn’t come out right away. She did see emergency crews cutting the doors and roof off of the car. After the tree hit the car the car crashed into a utility poll.

Chief Louis Barclay of the Conemaugh Township Police said he’s never seen anything like this in 23 years on the force and he called it a freak accident. The tree was rotten at the base but they don't know what caused the tree to fall.
The crash killed two children, two more kids were taken to the hospital and so were the two adults in the front of the car.

Seth was on this same road the day before and said none of the trees were even leaning over the road. But she said her neighborhood has had a lot of rain over the last week.

A State Police accident reconstruction team was also on scene.
