FOX TOWNSHIP, Pa. - An Elk County fire department has built a new social club after the previous one became too expensive to maintain.
Several firefighters and their families from the Fox Township Volunteer Fire Department spent about 18 months to build a new bar and dining hall.
There are about 60 volunteers but enrollment has been declining.
"Our average firefighter in our department is about 45 years old, and the new kids just aren't coming out,” volunteer Don Ruffner said.
A core group of 13 people helped build the new establishment from start to finish.
Residents and local businesses helped fund the project.
"There's only those few people that are a part of every organization, so if you want something to happen you have to be the ones to make it happen," trustee Jamie Dowie said.
