Development at Raystown Lake on hold

Entriken, Huntingdon County, Pa - A new marina and recreation area at Raystown Lake has been put on hold.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says the marina for a proposed resort is not allowed according to the Raystown Lake Master Plan which implemented in 1994.

Lancer Resources wanted to build in the Hawn's Bridge area of the lake.

The Texas-based developer had envisionedboth a lodge on Terrace Mountain and a marine on Hawn's bridge.

They believed it would bring an economic boost to the area, including 300 full-time jobs.

Vacationers were concerned about the development.

The current master plan for Raystown puts an emphasis on protecting the southeast shore, which includes the Hawn's Bridge area.

Col. Ed Chamberlayne, commander, Baltimore District, stated that re-entering the Master Process would allow the Corps to address any proposed development.  "We will immediately seek funding, personnel, and other resources to begin the master plan update," said Chamberlayne. "The update will include public input at appropriate times and preparation of corresponding National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation."

Once funds are made available, the process to complete updates to the MP could take between 18-24 months.
