UNIVERSITY PARK, CENTRE COUNTY - The Department of Environmental Protection has approved Penn State's plan for a new steam plant.
The university is planning to convert boilers at its current plant on the west campus from coal to natural gas.
The DEP approved the university's air quality plan today saying the proposed emissions meet the DEP’s requirements. Penn State plans to build two new natural gas boilers and modify the two existing coal boilers.
