Dangerous Side Effects of Bath Salts

ALTOONA, BLAIR COUNTY -- Experts say the effects of bath salts consumption can linger for days.  Police have said people locally on the drug have fought police officers, trashed houses and even shot others because they were hallucinating.  Unlike other drugs, experts say, you don't get sick when you come down, instead you can continue to be delusional for days.

"The actual high lasts about 30 to 60 minutes.  The urge to use the drug again starts about 45 minutes after use.  The side-effects, hallucinations, delusions can last for up to two weeks," Agent James Walstrom of the Attorney General's Office said.

Agent Walstrom said the cost of bath salts is comparable to the cost of other drugs like crack and heroin, so many addicts will use it if they don't have illicit drugs.
