CUMBERLAND VALLEY TOWNSHIP, BEDFORD COUNTY - Traffic was backed up for hours along one road in Bedford County after a garbage truck rolled over

It happened in along Bedford Valley Road in Cumberland Valley Township around 3:15 Monday afternoon. Police say the driver, 46 year old Erik Weyandt, failed to negotiate a turn, lost control, hit a guard rail then overturned the truck.

Weyandt was taken to Western Maryland Health System in Cumberland, Maryland with major injuries. No other vehicles were involved.

The crash scattered garbage all along the road. The road was shut down for 5 hours as the truck was righted back onto its wheels and debris was cleaned-up.

A DEP agent will check the sight Tuesday to make sure there was no damage to the environment.
