This pipeline proposal is in the very early stages, but some of the estimates have opened the eyes of a lot of people in the region.
Spectra Energy out of Texas is working a plan to build the pipeline.
Don Schwartz from the Bedford County Planning Commission says he just found out about the idea last week.
“I spoke briefly with a rep from the company and he assured me a meeting with myself and commissioners would happen soon,” Bedford County Planning Commission Director Don Schwartz says.
The pipeline would start at the Spectra Energy Natural Gas Compression site just south of Bedford on Route 220.
From there it would travel south to Centerville and through the mountains all the way to North Carolina.
Spectra Energy representatives tell us no official proposals have been made, but they are researching the area.
Some people who live in the proposed path have already received letters from the company.
“They're alerting people to the fact that they may be doing this and also alerting county officials," Schwartz says.
And while the pipeline concept is in the early stages, Schwartz says he does have some concerns moving forward.
“It'll be going through some fairly rugged terrain at least in PA and some farmland so we have concerns in each,” Schwartz says.
Schwartz says we are a few years away from potentially seeing any work begin on this pipeline, and he hopes to hold public meetings with some of the people on that path as soon as an official proposal is made by the company.
