Big step for medical marijuana

Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pa - Pennsylvania took a major step Wednesday toward implementation of the state's medical marijuana program. If you're a patient or a caregiver, you can now go to a web site and register to take part in the program. You can also find the names of doctors who've been trained to prescribe medical marijuana.

The acting health secretary launched the medical marijuana patient and caregiver registry during a news conference at the capitol rotunda. Dr. Rachel Levine said before registering, residents need to talk to their physician to see if medical marijuana is right for them and to find out if their doctor is registered with the program.

Several physicians in our region are on the list of doctors who've been trained and approved by the state.

"This has been a long time coming for so many Pennsylvanians suffering from serious medical conditions and as Governor  Wolf promised when he made this program law last year we will get medical  marijuana  to patients within the next six months, we are one step closer, one step closer," Dr. Levine told the crowd.

Two labs, one in Clearfield and the other in Julian, Centre County, have been approved to test the medication before it's dispensed.
