ALTOONA, BLAIR COUNTY - A Blair County robbery suspect says an addiction to bath salts caused him to rob someone at knife point.

Police arrested 23-year-old Joshua Benz Tuesday night. Police say he admitted to calling a taxi cab and surprising the driver with a kitchen knife, and robbed him. That was June 1st in the 1800 block of 2nd street in Altoona.

Altoona police arrested Benz on an unrelated warrant last week and one of the officers recognized him from the description. Tuesday night Benz turned himself in to Altoona Police, admitted the robbery, and said he did it because he was addicted to blizzard bath salts.

District Attorney Rich Consiglio says those bath salts are behind more and more crime in the county. He says the drug isn't illegal, but criminals are doing illegal things while hallucinating on the legal drug. And he says that can be even more dangerous.

He really wants the state to pass a law making bath salts illegal, but in the meantime they are looking at banning the sale.

Police are still looking for two more people in connection with this robbery and Benz might be connected to a series of similar robberies in Altoona. Benz has already posted bail and is back on the streets.
