Area plant slated to close

Altoona, Blair County, Pa - More than 100 area workers learned Wednesday that their jobs are on the line. The Cenveo plant, north of Alltoona is slated to close by the end of June. Cenveo owns two plants in Blair County, one north of Altoona in the Pinecroft area and the other in Williamsburg borough.

A member of the U.S. Steelworkers, which represents Cenveo employees says about 140 people work at the Pinecroft location.

Cenveo says whether  Altoona area workers will continue to have jobs depends in part on the union at the Williamsburg plant. The company  says it hopes to move equipment from Pinecroft to Williamsburg and to offer work to as many former Altoona employees as possible.

However, United Steelworkers in Williamsburg will have to agree to that plan. The company says the equipment will be moved elsewhere, if that doesn't occur. The Altoona Blair County Development Corporation hopes to keep that from happening..

ABCD Corporation President & CEO Stephen McKnight said, "It's never good news when there's a downsizing particularly in manufacturing, so we take this very seriously and we never like to see this happen. We'll intervene as best we can and see how we can retain as many of those jobs as possible."

Cenveo filed for bankruptcy last month., reporting long-term debt of around $1 billion dollars.
