Bedford is a quiet area with a small community feel, but Thursday more than 100 people gathered to find out what to do if the quiet is shattered.
Jesse Moyer, Co-Owner of Proactive Securities, said, "Don't think this can't happen to you. Don't think that this is something that happens to people in Aurora, Colorado."
Kellie Goodman Shaffer, Executive Director with the Bedford County Chamber of Commerce, said, "Newtown was just like Bedford before the tragedy there."
Jesse Moyer is one of the people who decided to start Proactive Securities when he realized there was a need to train regular folks.
"I'm married,” said Jessie Moyer. “I have a daughter a five year old and I think about what would she do? You know you always worry about your family. "
That led him and two others to use their combined 50 years of law enforcement experience to help people stay alive in dangerous situations.
Thomas Reed, Co-Owner of Proactive Securities, said, "We've responded to hundreds if not thousands high risk incidents active shooter situations."
Today's training helped people identify what they can do if they're in a building with an intruder on the loose.
Bradley Hershey, Co-Owner of Proactive Securities, said "We want people to be proactive* -- to think about what am I going to do if something happens?"
And it comes as a good refresher to employees like jim dunn -- who was held up twice by a robber at work.
Jim Dunn, Director of Engineering at Omni Bedford Springs Resort, said, "It's amazing the things you actually forget."
"You hear the comments well that doesn't happen around here,” said Moyer. “That doesn't happen. Well it does."
The training Jesse and his partners gave to the businesses in Bedford County is all about making sure if the quiet is shattered, families can go home safely at the end of the day.
They say the training is not over after one day, and add it's important to keep the information fresh in your mind so it's committed to muscle memory in case something happens.
