JOHNSTOWN, CAMBRIA COUNTY--- The Special Olympic Games are underway in Johnstown.

“It’s like coming home every year,” said skating coach Keith Gengler.  “It is always nice to see the different coaches, athletes and how they’ve improved.”

Sara Boyd is one of Gengler’s students.  She competed Monday and Tuesday in figure skating.

“I like skating,” said Boyd.

The 26 year old is competing in her first Olympic games.

“These athletes spend a lot of time getting ready for the games,” said Gengler.

“The athletes get to come here to compete and make a new memory,” said Anna Weltz, Communications Manager.

"A lot of athletes look forward to this competition for so many reasons,” said Mike Suman, Alpine Sports Director.  “Including seeing their friends that they don't get to see very often, and they are very competitive athletes."

Games conclude on Tuesday.
