This summer, Pennsylvania health officials reported 3 cases of the Chikungunya virus in people returning from the Caribbean. Before that, only two cases had been confirmed in the state in the past ten years.
Now an experimental vaccine to protect against the mosquito-borne virus Chikungunya is showing promise. Researchers at National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases looked at 25 healthy people for their study and found the vaccine was safe and tolerated well.

Nearly 600 cases of Chikungunya have been reported this year in the US, most in people who traveled to the Caribbean where there are outbreaks.
