PITTSBURGH - As of July 1, UPMC is asking employees, doctors, volunteers, contractors and students to be smoke and tobacco-free during their entire shift. That means no tobacco, even during breaks, off hospital grounds.

The health system already prohibited tobacco use on any of its properties. UPMC  says it's not requiring employees to quit smoking, but they  can't smell like smoke during work.

Workers are being offered  online support, health coaching, and nicotine replacement products, to help them quit smoking.
