HARRISBURG, PENNSYLVANIA - The governor's Healthy Pennsylvania Plan gets backing from a major state health organization. The Pennsylvania Hospital Association (HAP) announced on Wednesday that it supports the Corbett Medicaid Reform Plan.

The organization represents 240 hospitals throughout the state. Its president and CEO said the group backs the governor's application for a waiver from a federal requirement that Medicaid be expanded.

"Pennsylvania hospitals unequivocally support strengthening Medicaid to ensure effective insurance coverage and access to quality care for all Pennsylvanians. We also support the broad aims of Healthy Pennsylvania--access, quality, and affordability," Andy Carter said.

The Corbett plan calls for federal money to be used to buy private health coverage for low-income residents, instead of putting them on the regular Medicaid program.

HAP says it will submit a letter of support for Healthy Pa To the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
