ALTOONA, BLAIR COUNTY - The Healthy Blair County Coaltion is launching a new effort to get residents moving. Blair ranks 51st out of 67 counties in the state when it comes to the health of residents and how long they're living.
So, the coalition is unveiling a campaign called Let's Move Blair County. It's geared toward helping the community make healthier choices.
Let's Move Blair County is based on First Lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move Campaign, aimed at reducing childhood obesity. Bishop says all 7 school districts in the county will be involved, but local activities will also focus on adults.
Richard Bishop, the Director of the Northern Blair Recreation Center is helping to lead the effort. He says, "in the end, it's going to make people feel better, it's going to lower overall health costs, and give businesses throughout Blair County healthier employees."
The first event takes place June 21 at five sites in the county.
You'll find more information on the Let's Move Blair County FaceBook page.
