DANVILLE, MONTOUR COUNTY - A hospital in the region is getting state money for genetic research and telemedicine. On Friday, Governor Tom Corbett announced a $100,000 grant for Geisinger Health System.
The funding will go to support telemedicine initiatives at a new genomic medicine center in Luzerne County. Geisinger says, at the facility, patients will have gene sequencing completed, interpreted, and applied to their healthcare by a team of genetics experts and other medical specialists.
Funding for the grant will come from the Discovered in Pa. - Developed in Pa. Program. According to the Corbett Administration, The program was designed to increase economic opportunity in the commonwealth by investing in companies that embrace innovative ideas.
