Federal officials are warning  of a record number of measles cases in the United States. The Centers for Disease Control says the 288 confirmed cases of measles between January and May 23 of this year, is the largest number in the U.S. in the first five months of the year, since 1994.

Measles has been reported in 18 states, including Pennsylvania, which has 2 confirmed cases, one in the eastern part of the state, and another near Pittsburgh. But, most are in Ohio, California, and New York City.

The largest number, 138 are in Ohio, primarily among unvaccinated Amish communities. The CDC says 97 percent of the cases in the U.S. came from other countries. Half were imported from the Phillipines where there's been a large outbreak since October.

Measles was believed to have been eradicated in this country  in 2000
