Some area residents are among 4.5 million patients nationwide whose personal information has been stolen in a cyber attack. Lock Haven Hospital is operated by Community Health Systems Inc., which has 206 hospitals nationwide, including 20 in Pennsylvania.

Community Health Systems says it was targeted earlier this year by  hackers from China. The company says patient names, addresses, birthdates and social security numbers from the past five years, were stolen.

Commonwealth Health Systems is pledging to offer identity theft protection services to people affected by the attack.
