Alex Cawley

Alex Cawley joined WTAJ in October 2014 as Sports Director.
Alex was born in Scranton, but grew up in Harrisburg, where he attended Bishop McDevitt High School.  After high school, Alex made the cross-country trip toward the Valley of the Sun and warm temperatures to begin his undergraduate studies at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University.  He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and Mass Communication in 2008.
He began his professional career slowly working his way back east toward Pennsylvania with a four-year stop at KFDM in Beaumont, Texas.  There, he covered the ‘religion’ that is Texas high school football, as well as Lamar University athletics.
In a New York state of mind, Alex next ventured to WETM in Elmira, New York in June 2012.  The Twin Tiers presented an opportunity to cover Pennsylvania and New York high school athletics, in addition to the racing circuits that came through Watkins Glen International.
This now brings Alex full circle to Central Pennsylvania.  As the son of two Penn State alumni, Alex was rarely seen without his Penn State Starter jackets as a kid and spent many Saturdays in Happy Valley cheering for the Nittany Lions inside Beaver Stadium.
These days, you will often see him wearing maroon and gold in support of his Sun Devils, but Alex is ecstatic to be covering Pennsylvania high school sports, Penn State athletics, the Steelers, Penguins, and Pirates.
