John Frederick at the Intermunicipal Relations Committee loves to see a recycling bin that's perfectly put together, but he says not enough other people feel like he does. He says the curbside recycling program is suffering from some mediocre participation. So he came up with a way to make people love recycling as much as him.
They IRC is going to give away a $50 gift certificate to someone in a preselected neighborhood who sets out the perfect recycling bin.
The perfect recycling bin will have plastic and glass bottles, aluminum and steel cans, and in the paper bin phone books, newspapers, magazines, and office paper, it needs to be bundled up with twine or in a paper bag. Any shredded paper has to be in a clear plastic bag, and no recyclables in the trash.
The perfect recycling bin contest starts the week of Earth Day and goes till America Recycles Day in November. There will be a winner each week. And the recycling patrol will be looking in every neighborhood in Blair County where people are required to recycle.
