ALTOONA, BLAIR COUNTY - WTAJ partnered with WPS and Burgmeier's Hauling giving residents in the area a chance to safely dispose of sensitive documents for free in Altoona. Burgmeier's officials estimated about 15 tons of documents, newspapers, and magazines were shredded during the event which was held at the WTAJ studio parking lot on Wednesday.

Cars started lining up around 5:00AM Wednesday to get rid of their old documents. Tom Strunk brought papers from the early 90's, and Nanette Cummings had tax documents from the 80's.

Andy Biddle of Burgmeier's Shredding thinks they took in about 15 tons of paper, and a lot of cardboard, which works out to saving about 255 trees. Last year in Altoona about 13 tons of documents were shredded.

The next free shredding event will be held on Wednesday, May 9 in DuBois hosted by Stoltz Toyota Scion and Stoltz Hyundai. For more information about this event click here.
