HARRISBURG - Businesses, non-profit agencies, local governments and transportation organizations can now apply for help from the state... to help the environment.
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection's Alternative Fuels Incentive Grant (AFIG) Natural Gas Vehicle program officially opened Wednesday.
It will provide an estimated $10 million in grants to help companies and organizations purchase or convert medium to light-weight natural gas vehicles.
Those interested in buying or converting only one or two alternative fuel vehicles are encouraged to partner with other eligible groups for a single application. The grant requires a five-vehicle minimum.
Funds are available for the conversion or purchase of natural gas vehicles weighing less than 14,000 lb., as well as the conversion or purchase of electric, propane or other alternative fuel vehicles of any size.
Applications will also be accepted for research, development and innovation in alternative fuel transportation. That includes non-road vehicles, such as natural gas-powered trains or marine vessels.
Applications are due July 26, 2013 by 4 p.m.
Grants will be awarded in the fall.
