Relatives as Parents Program

Raising someone else’s child can be a challenge, but the Children’s Aid Society has a program that may be able to help! Charity Selvage from the Relatives as Parents Program shares some tips for those transitioning into parenthood.

Transitioning into Parenthood

·         Acknowledge your feelings

·         Take care of yourself

·         Focus on creating a stable environment

·         Encourage open and honest communication

·         Reach out for support

The Relatives as Parents Program Support Group meets once a month with a light dinner and free child care at each session. This program is designed to help grandparents or other relatives who have taken on the role of being the primary caregiver to a related child. Services Include: a support group for adults, referral and access to appropriate community-based services and resources, as well as education and training to learn new parent and coping skills.

A support group meets in Coalport at St. Basil the Great Parish on the first Monday of every month, and in Clearfield at the Children’s Aid Society on the third Monday of every month. The meetings begin at 6:00 pm on the following dates:

Coalport: February 6, March 6, April 3, May 1, June 5

Clearfield: February 20, March 20, April 17, May 15, June 19
