With celebrities promoting the newest and greatest in cosmetic procedures, it can be hard to sort through what the best options are for making you look and feel your best.
We met up with Dr. Emily Peterson, MD and Krystan Shimmel, PA-C, from Mount Nittany Physician Group, for some helpful advice on cosmetic procedures.
According to Dr. Peterson, patients that come into his office often have concerns about acne scars, fine lines, wrinkles, blemishes, facial spider veins, brown “age spots”, small red moles and unwanted hair.  Dr. Peterson says the number one cosmetic procedure performed in the United States is hair reduction.
These conditions can be treated in a number of ways, but they are most commonly treated through Intense Pulsed Light, (otherwise known as IPL) or with a laser.  Dr. Peterson says these are the two most commonly used and they are safe and effective for the patient.
According to Shimmel, both the IPL and laser services are performed in an outpatient setting, with minimal discomfort.  A physician is best able to tell you which treatment would be better to treat your condition, so Shimmel says it’s best to schedule a consultation.
