"It's our sixth annual ‘Fun in the Snow at Black Mo’,” said Black Moshannon State Park Manager, Jessica Lavelua. “It's a winter festival. Really, the title says it all, fun in the snow.”
And boy, is it ever!
What started as a way to get people out to the park during the slow winter months, has turned into quite the spectacle.
They’ll have an area for ice skating, broom ball, a mini golf course, a bowling alley, and curling. They’ll also have cross-country skis, snow shoes and figure skates you can borrow, along with a guided nature walk, and some craft activities where you can make your own sled.
"We had a group of girls come here three years ago, a group of girls who would have absolutely never done any of this,” said Pegg Culp, of “Friends of Black Moshannon”. “And they said it was the best time of their life, they were anxious to come back the next year, they very much enjoyed it."
And the event just keeps getting bigger and better every year. This year’s line-up will also include an ice harvesting demonstration.
And the best part of all?
"It's free,” said Culp. “It's totally free. It's something that you can come out and enjoy."
And with upwards of 600 people expected to pass through the park this weekend, this truly will be one of the hottest spots around.
