National Nurses Appreciation Week is celebrated in mid-May. Homewood at Martinsburg pulls out all the stops with continuing education and a luau!
In this segment, we talk with Lori Rimbeck, Dir. of Nursing, Homewood at Martinsburg. She says there are 200 nurses on staff at the Martinsburg location. And, this year they have a big reason to celebrate.
"We were deficiency free this year... for 2014 survey," Rimbeck explained. "Everybody worked very hard and it's not just the nursing staff... All of our staff in our entire building, over 300 people, work very hard all year long."
Rimbeck says the key to success is continuing education. It's an annual requirement for nurses to stay up to date on changes in healthcare techniques and policies. At Homewood, they hold an information fair for nurses to polish their skills and refresh their memories on various nursing tasks.
"It re-enforces their skills but it's a fun day too," Rimbeck said.
In addition, this year Homewood at Martinsburg held a luau for residents and staff to help celebrate.
