You can see Jennifer and her bass player, Scott Jeffreys, the last Friday of every month from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at Harrigan’s Café & Wine Deck in Johnstown. Their next show is this Friday, January 31.
Jennifer Drummey grew up in southwestern Pennsylvania midst a lively, musical family -- many evenings spent with siblings around the piano singing "Erie Canal" and other folk songs. She could hear music easily at an early age and began studying Suzuki violin at 6. This study continued through college while playing with various symphony orchestras. But simultaneously, another passion was brewing.
The music scene at that time was exploding --- the harmonies of Crobsy, Stills and Nash, the poetry of Joni Mitchell, the twang of the Byrds' guitars, the heart and soul of Janis, the haunting vocals of Jefferson Airplane, the power of Cream and the boundary-breaking riffs of Hendrix. Jennifer remembers falling asleep to free-form radio, dreaming of making music half that beautiful. As a young teenager she got her first acoustic guitar for Christmas. And that was it.
Songwriting was a natural progression. After many years of honing her craft, Jennifer has produced and released her first full-length CD "From Then Till Now Till When". The collection encapsulates the playing, writing, rewriting, arranging and connecting of ideas that have been present for a long time. As one unsolicited iTunes reviewer puts it "...her songs seem to spring from some hidden place. And Drummey's voice is authentic -- her lyrics strike the listener as genuine, grounded in life, strands woven from experience... A splendidly produced album, all arrangements built around the same core, which are Drummey's voice and guitar."
One could say that Jennifer Drummey is a relatively new artist on the scene, but one who's been influenced most by music that's been around for a couple of generations. Her music can be found on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, CDbaby.com, and fishrecords.co.uk.
