Tammi Ingham from the Central PA Humane Society shares a recipe for chili in anticipation of the 2014 ChiliFest.

Jill's Brutastic Chili
1 lb Stew Beef, cut into larger chunks
1 onion, chopped
Flavored Meat tenderizer
1 Tbsp. minced garlic
1 Jalapeno, finely diced (optional)
2 tsp. Cumin
2 pinches Parsley
2 pinches Basil
Pepper to taste
1 can Whole mushrooms (drained)
3 jars Spaghetti Sauce (DelGrosso's preferred)
1 -14.5 oz. can diced tomatoes (Rotel brand {10 oz.} for a kick)
1 -16 oz. can Hanover Chili Beans, not drained
1 -15.5 oz. can Cannellini Beans (drained)
In iron skillet, pierce beef chunks with a fork, then sprinkle with meat tenderizer. Brown beef to medium rare, adding onions, garlic, jalapeno, and spices while cooking, stirring regularly so meat is not overdone. Meanwhile, place remainder of ingredients in slow cooker on high and stir. When beef is cooked, transfer to slow cooker using a slotted spoon to drain. Close the lid and let it simmer for several hours.
Serve with shredded sharp Cheddar Cheese in tortilla bowls.
Serves a small crowd!

Tickets are on sale now for the Central PA Humane Society ChiliFest & Wings. The event will be held on Saturday, February 15 from 6:00 to 10:00 pm at the Bavarian Aid Society in Altoona. ChilFest & Wings includes six celebrity judges as well as local celebrity contestants. Trophies will be awarded for the top three chili and wing recipes. There will also be entertainment, raffles, and a cash bar. Proceeds benefit the CPHS Police Department and Kennel Kampaign.

Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at the Central PA Humane Society, Liberty Mart, Rustic Country Furniture, Reigh & Associates/Ameriprise Financial, and the CPHS Wellness Center.
