MAKING KIDS A PRIORITY

The YMCA of Centre County is committed to helping end childhood hunger. The Backpack Weekend Food Program provides a bag of food for students to eat on weekends when they are not receiving a school lunch. The need and demand for this program has increased throughout our service area, and we are now serving Philipsburg-Osceola, Bellefonte, Bald Eagle, Moshannon Valley, West Branch, and Penns Valley Area Schools.

“AS I WAS WALKING INTO THE SCHOOL, A PARENT CAME UP TO ME AND GAVE ME A BIG HUG WITH TEARS IN HER EYES, AND THANKED ME FOR THE PROGRAM AND TOLD HOW MUCH IT MEANS FOR HER CHILDREN. SHE SAID IT WAS SUCH A RELIEF TO NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT HAVING ENOUGH FOOD FOR THEM ON THE WEEKEND, WITH THE FAMILY STRUGGLING FINANCIALLY. I FEEL EVEN MORE COMMITTED AFTER SEEING FIRST HAND WHAT A DIFFERENCE THE BACKPACK PROGRAM HAS MADE.”
